I build fast, accessible WordPress sites and web apps for US businesses.

I'm Shusanto Kumar Modak — a full-stack developer with 7+ years in the field, including 2.5 years embedded with a web agency in Illinois. I write clean code, communicate in plain English, and I don't disappear.

What I do

One developer, the whole stack.

Most clients come to me with a site that needs building, a site that needs rescuing, or an idea that needs to become software. I handle all three.

WordPress Development

Custom themes and builds that load fast and stay maintainable — no 40-plugin stacks, no mystery code.

  • Custom theme & block development
  • Bricks, Oxygen, Breakdance, Elementor
  • Migrations and redesigns

Custom Plugins & Features

When no plugin does quite what you need — or the one that does carries 2MB of things you don't.

  • Custom post types & admin tools
  • REST and third-party API integrations
  • Booking, directory and calculator features

Web Apps & SaaS

Applications with real logic behind them — accounts, dashboards, billing, integrations, data.

  • Laravel & Node.js back ends
  • React, Next.js and Vue front ends
  • Client portals and internal tools

ADA & WCAG Compliance

Source-level accessibility work, not an overlay widget. Audits, remediation and a written conformance summary.

  • WCAG 2.1 AA audits & fixes
  • Keyboard and screen-reader testing
  • Accessibility statement for your site

Speed & Core Web Vitals

Diagnosing why a site is slow and fixing the cause, rather than installing one more caching plugin on top.

  • LCP, CLS and INP remediation
  • Asset, image and database cleanup
  • Hosting and caching configuration

White-Label for Agencies

I slot into your team, your tools and your process. Your client never has to know my name.

  • Monthly retainers or per-project
  • Slack, Basecamp, ClickUp, Teamwork
  • Overflow work and care-plan backup

What I actually built, the decisions behind it, and what it was worth to the business on the other end.

A SaaS product I designed, built and shipped solo: a WordPress builder that turns a prompt into real, editable pages, templates and headers — clean HTML and CSS instead of page-builder markup. Live, with paying customers.

Why clients stay

The hard part isn't the code.

Plenty of developers can build what you asked for. Far fewer tell you when what you asked for is the wrong thing, give you a straight answer on timing, and are still around in six months.

  • You talk to the person writing the code. No account manager relaying a half-understood brief.
  • Real overlap with US hours. I keep my day on EST/CST so you are not waiting 14 hours for an answer.
  • Written updates you can forward. Agency owners can paste my updates straight to their client.
  • Honest scoping. If a job is 20 hours and not 5, you hear it before we start, not after.
  • I inherit other people's code. Most of my work starts in a codebase I didn't write.

How it works

A process built to avoid surprises.

Four steps, no mystery. You always know what is happening and what it costs.

STEP 01

Call & scope

A 30-minute call to understand the goal, the constraints and the deadline. You leave it with a written scope and a fixed price or an honest hour estimate.

STEP 02

Build in the open

Work happens on a staging site you can watch. Short written updates at agreed checkpoints, so nothing lands as a surprise at the end.

STEP 03

Test & review

Cross-browser, mobile, keyboard and screen-reader checks before you see it. Then your round of feedback, with revisions included.

STEP 04

Launch & support

Deployment handled, backups verified, a handover document written. Then 30 days of free post-launch fixes — and a care plan if you want one.

From the blog

Plain-English writing for people who hire developers.

No tutorials, no framework holy wars. Just the things US business owners and agency owners keep asking me.

Questions

The things people ask before hiring me.

How does working across time zones actually go?
I deliberately run my day to overlap US business hours — several hours of live overlap with Eastern and Central time, every working day. In practice that means you send a message in the morning and have an answer the same morning, not the next one. For calls I work around your calendar, including early US mornings.
What does a project cost?
It depends entirely on scope, and I would rather give you a real number than a brochure range. Small, well-defined jobs are quoted fixed-price. Ongoing or exploratory work is hourly. Agency retainers are a monthly block of hours. After one call I can tell you which bucket you are in and roughly what to budget — for free, with no obligation.
Do you work white-label for agencies?
Yes, and it is a large part of what I do. I spent two and a half years as the development side of a US agency, so I understand how agency work runs: your project management tool, your branding, your client relationship. I never contact your clients and I never put your projects in a public portfolio without asking.
Can you take over a site someone else built?
That is most of my work. I spent years maintaining a portfolio of 150+ WordPress sites that other people built, in every state of repair. I will audit what is there, tell you honestly whether it is worth fixing or replacing, and then improve it incrementally rather than insisting on a rebuild you do not need.
What happens after launch?
Every build includes 30 days of free fixes for anything that is not working as specified. After that you can either take the site and run it yourself — I hand over a written document explaining how everything works — or put it on a monthly care plan where I handle updates, backups, security and small changes.
How do we get started?
Send me a message through the contact page with a sentence or two about what you need. I reply within one business day, usually with a couple of questions. If it looks like a fit, we get on a 30-minute call and I follow up with a written scope and price.

Let's talk about what you're building.

Free 30-minute call, an honest opinion on scope, and a written quote. No sales pitch — I will tell you if I am not the right fit.
